Where I get my inspiration from
Happy New Year Everyone, I hope that you all had a great holiday time.
I thought that I would talk a little about how and where I get my inspiration from.
Sometimes belonging to a Quilt group is a great place to get inspired. Many times I have seen one member come in with a quilt or project that they are working on and they get a lot of interest. By the next month meeting there will be 3 or 4 other members where so inspired that they had to start there own version of the quilt or project. Then a few more people will get inspired it can just snow ball and before you know it more then half your group is doing the version of the same project or quilt.

I get a lot of my ideas from book and magazines. I am one of those quilters that will use a picture of a quilt as my jumping off point.
I photographed this from the book Millefiori Quilts by Willyne Hammerstein. This quilt is called Love in my Guiding star. I got inspired by the shape she used in this quilt and thought that I could do something with that shape and maybe others. So this was my jumping off point for my next quilt.
As you can see, I have used one shape from the quilt that Willyne Hammerstein used in her quilt but I have done other shapes and will be doing something different then she has done. At this point was not sure what I was going to do with all my blocks.
Another great resource is Pinterest. If you are going to use this resource be careful you can lose track of time and get no sewing done. The other day I was looking on Pinterest for ideas of what I would like to do with my hex's blocks (pictured above) and found the perfect ideal, so I went to work. I decided that I would like to do a medallion quilt with my Hex's.
So I got out my shapes and fabric and put this block together using English Paper piecing. The border that you see was a border fabric designed by Di Ford. I am appliqueing it on to the block as a scalloped border. I have decided that I would use the Hex's (picture above) to frame around this block.
I still have a lot more Hex's to make before I will have enough. YouTube is great also, for learning new techniques (again be careful you can lose track of time here too). Sometimes just the fabric or line of fabrics can inspire me.
